Distinguished Service Award
We are so very pleased to share that during the festivities around our Governor's in January, our MARGE CORRIDORI was awarded the DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD. Of course, we were not at all surprised as Marge was our award recipient last year! She has been a wonderful contributor to our chapter through her community service and performance of her duties as Secretary. She's also just great people. Yeah Marge! We love you MiC!

Kiwanis Int'l Convention 2010
The Kiwanis International Convention, held in Las Vegas from Wednesday to Saturday of last week (June 23-June 27) was the best ever! So says International President Paul Palazzolo, and his words were echoed by almost 7,000 Kiwanians from all over the world as the proceedings came to a close Saturday afternoon. Our own president, Rhonda Clure, was happy yesterday as she related to the club the highlights of the great convention.
From the opening ceremony, featuring the famous Colin Powell, to the closing breakfast and lunch with the Beaver (Jerry Mathers) there were a host of things to do! Highlights were great speakers, funny man Jay Leno, a District Dinner hosted by Governor Roy Talley and First Lady Dee, and a whole session of outstanding seminars and workshops. There was something for Kiwanians of every taste.
Attending for the Conejo Valley Kiwanis Club were President Rhonda Clure, Wendy Prindle, Paul & Marty Campbell and last but definitely not last First Lady Dee Talley. Division 42 clubs were represented by Camarillo, T.O., Conejo, East Ventura, Ventura, Ventura Suburban, and Simi Valley.

Our First Special Guest Day
Special Guest Day is an event designed to introduce new people to Kiwanis Clubs and to help us build membership. They are centered around a very special invited speaker.
With more membership we make new friends, get new talent and new ideas. Which helps us better able to make a difference in our communities.
Tuesday we had an excellent committee meeting for our event. We tentatively planned this event to occur at our regular meeting time and place on August 4, 2009. (subject to Board approval)
The committee has decided to meet on a weekly basis, immediately after each of our regularly scheduled meetings
Although we have 5 committee chairmen involved, we will need the help of our whole club. Mostly just for two things. First to give us the name and contact info for prospective new members that we can invite. There' will be a special invitation. Please, at least one from each member. And secondly, to show up for our meeting on August 4.
Imagine, how successful our event would be if everyone invited two guests! Please put your thinking caps on.

Ready, Fire, Aim!
We thought and we now know that we had a great idea to start doing Free Networking Socials as part of our club's outreach.
So far, we've been using our website www.cvkiwanis.org , Facebook (not everyone can access it), Yahoo Calendar at http://calendar.yahoo.com/friendsofcvkiwanis, yahoo emails and finally VerticalResponse. With that experience, we now we need to decide how we want to do this and look for the volunteers to run the system. Thoughts?
- We knew folks needed a lower cost way to Network with others.
- We knew some folks couldn't attend our weekly meeting because of cost or time.
- We knew folks wanted to make a difference in their community but didn't know how.
- We knew it came down to communication.
- And we knew we had to make it fun.
